Our course is coming to a close. We've explored different topics and tools for teaching mathematics. We haven't talked too much about summative or formative assessment. One option for assessment is Google Forms. But there are more. In this learning task, we'll explore some web 2.0 tools that can be used to support assessment.
RUBISTAR:
One tool is Rubistar. Rubistar is an online rubric generator. There are lots of options and it's totally customizable. It will plug-in descriptions and values based on your criteria. However, you can edit the descriptions, change the point values, and more. Lastly, the rubric downloads to your computer as a word document which is a nice bonus.
You don't need an account for Rubistar although that is an option. Some tutorials are posted below. However, it's pretty easy to figure out with some clicks and trials.
POLL EVERYWHERE:
You've probably used Poll Everywhere in a workshop before. Simply, it allows someone to collect responses through text messaging or through the internet (in case you don't want a cell phone in your class). It can be used to pre-assess students, generate feedback about a topic or lesson, or collect data for student investigations. It's free. It saves your surveys and updates your results. Lastly, you can download the data for ppt presentations and more (if you choose). Here are 3 tutorials. Like Rubistar, Poll Everywhere is pretty easy to figure out with some clicks and playing.
POLL EVERYWHERE ALTERNATIVES: You can choose to investigate/use any of these alternatives. They all work in a similar way. However, you may find one tool more user friendly or attractive.
Testmoz is a tool for creating online quizzes and tests. It's really easy to use and you can create a library of assessments. Sample below as well as some tutorials.
Kahoot is also listed above. Kahoot is a really nice tool. I'll give you the option to use Kahoot instead of Testmoz IF you didn't use Kahoot in place of Poll Eveywhere. *
What to do to complete this Learning Task:**
1. Create a Rubistar rubric. Download the word doc it generates and post it to your wiki page.
2. Create a Poll Everywhere (or alternative listed above) and post it to your wiki page.
3. Create a Testmoz quiz (or Kahoot) of approximately 5 questions and post the link to your wiki page.
4. There is no reflection for this Learning Task.
